2025-2026 Cheer Tryouts

TRYOUT INFORMATION:

Date: May 9th, 10th, 11th

**All applicants MUST register at the following links before the audition:

Tryout fee: $75 new applicants (and all new recruits)

Tryout fee: $50 for anyone who was a member of the 2025-2026 squads.

The schedule below is tentative and is subject to change at discretion of the coach.

Prior cheer experience is required. Members are chosen based on appearance, communication skills, crowd appeal, motion placement and timing, tumbling skills, and partner stunt abilities.

IMPORTANT!
THE ONLINE APPLICATION MUST BE FILLED OUT BEFORE THE TRYOUT DATE. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOUR APPLICATION FORM (so prepare these documents BEFORE filling it out):

Completed University of Memphis Spirit Squad online application (all applicants)

Proof of Admission to the University of Memphis (copy of acceptance letter OR University ID), (new applicants only)

University of Memphis consent to participate form (all applicants)
-
Copy of your insurance policy card (front and back) (all applicants)

Tryout Payment. See above for prices. Payment will be accepted when you fill out the application.. (Debit/Credit cards only)

Day 1:
Date: May 9th
Time: 4:30pm
Location: Rec Center
Attire:
-
All female candidates must wear a black, blue, or white crop top/sports bra with black shorts or black spanks.
-
Hair should be in a low pony with bow (white or blue) tails facing backwards and game day curled. All hair must be off your face and pinned back if needed. Makeup should be performance ready.

Jewelry is not allowed including watches.

Male candidates must wear blue, black, grey or white collared shirts tucked in Khaki shorts (black, blue, or tan).
-
All male applicant's hair must be out of face and clean shaven.
Tumbling skills judged:
-
Standing Tuck (REQUIRED)
-
BHS-BHS Back Tuck
-
Specialty Standing Tumbling (i.e., BHS-BHS Full, Standing Full etc.)
-
Round BHS Full or Your best Roundoff BHS tuck/Layout
-
Specialty running pass (whip, arabian, punch, etc.) to full
Applicants will also learn and be evaluated on the following:

Fight Song (full) with 1 standing tuck on Dead Mat
-
Stunt will be required in fight song as well
Coed : toss extension/full up
All Girl : extension/full up
*You will be able to find full fight song demonstration on our instagram @uofmtigers_cheer to help you prepare for tryouts.
*Applicants advancing to Day 2 will be notified (time: TBA)
Day 2
Date: May 10th
Time: 12:00pm
Location: Student Recreation and SPORTS COMPLEX (620 Echles St Memphis, TN 38111)
Elite Stunt & IME Evaluation
COED:
Elite Sequence
• Two elite stunts with transition in between. Example: BHS up, full to cradle, Hand in Hand, pull stretch, double down.
IME Sequence
• Advanced stunt with a dismount. Example: Full up, low to high tick to stretch, corkscrew down.
ALL GIRL:
Elite Sequence
• Two elite stunts with transition in between. Example: Extended hand in hand, full to stomach, BHS up, pull arabesque, double down.
IME Sequence
• Advanced stunt with a dismount. Example: Full up, high to high full around, stretch, creative dismount.

2025-2026 University of Memphis Cheer Team will be announced by social media accounts following Day 2.*

Spirit Squad Meeting

Attire: Please wear black pants or shorts, T shirt is provided.

Agenda: Breakfast, contract review, team photos
Gameday practice with Cheer and Dance

Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm
